Bending, Lifting, and Sleeping WorkshopThere are four basic and simple rules to properly bend and lift. If you do these four points well, your low back and your entire body will benefit greatly over the decades of your life. If you learn these four basic rules, you’ve learned the ABCs of bending and lifting. Just as learning your ABCs in school, you repeat them until you learn them. Then for the rest of your life, you know and use your ABCs. Any time any part of your body comes closer to the ground, you're bending. Any time any part of your body goes up away from the ground, you're lifting. You bend and lift your body hundreds of times a day. In the last thirty minutes of the workshop, you’ll learn the what is proper, and what is wrong, when it comes to lying down while sleeping. You’ll learn these rules that will hopefully seem like common sense to you. Then you’ll be able to be in your usual sleeping position and be corrected on specifically what you’re doing wrong and doing right. If you would feel self conscious while lying in your sleeping position, you don’t have to participate in this last workshop activity. Sleeping takes up almost one third of your life. If you lie in bed for seven hours a night, it equals lying in bed for 24 hours a day for 106 days of the 365 days in a year. This is equivalent of you being in bed from January 1 until April 16 every year. You won’t get out of bed until April 17th. Over 70 years, you’re in bed for 21 solid years of your life. The position you sleep in has a big impact on your body over 70 years. Some people have found that their sleeping position was primarily responsible for directly causing them chronic aches and pains. Your sleeping position(s) can have a huge positive or negative effect over the decades of your life. The workshop location for the bending, lifting, and sleeping workshop is at my office.
